Heading into CES 2011, expetations are running high for a number of large tablet computing announcements. Home theatre and streaming video set top boxes are also expected to make waves as are eBook readers and 3D devices.

In terms of tablets, Motorola has already pre-empted a blockbuster release hinting at the first bona-fide Honeycomb Android tablet with a titlliating teaser video which comically weighs the pros and cons of the great tablets in history while throwing both the Apple iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab under a bus for being large smartphones.

Unless Apple makes a surprise statement towards a new iPad in early January all the attention will be on Android devices.

2010 has been a great year for video streaming set top boxes. Boxee, Roku, AppleTV are all enjoying a modicum of success and we expect to see a wider variety of devices with possibly cheaper price points.

The missing piece of the streaming content puzzle is the content. Cable and TV network providers are still very protective of where their content can appear, there are also huge regional holes with regards to where content is available. Here in Canada, we usually need to wait months before shows or movies are made available.

We expect these to be some of the big stories going into CES 2011 and while we'll be looking out for the latest developments on the show floor, we are also crossing our fingers for a lot of unexpected surprises.
