Samsung launches EX2F 'Smart' camera with F1.4 lens and WiFi

Samsung is relentlessly pursuing market share in the consumer point and shoot camera segment. They've upped the ante in terms of innovation (touchscreen control, built-in WiFi, integration with Android apps) and now they're challenging the competition in terms of lenses, sensors and features.

Camera geeks will appreciate the EX2F's F1.4 24mm wide-angle lens said to be approximately four times as bright as a F2.8 camera lens. All this in a solid and metal bodied compact point and shoot that also shoots HD video.

Samsung says that  the lens unit now consists of eleven elements in nine groups, with four aspherical lenses and two high refractive lenses. Combined, these provide a 20% increase in the amount of light on the sensor, a 20% increase in image quality and a 10% increase in zoom ratio.  This translates to consistenly bright and well exposed images even in not so ideal lighting conditions.

Other notable features include an articulating 3.0” Swivel AMOLED display, Auto, 80~3200, (6400 ~ 12800 extended mode) ISO. Pricing and availability hasn't been announced but if it is anything like its predecessor, the EX1 (which sold for $500), it will be competitive with most entry-level DSLRs and Interchangeable Lens Cameras.
