We’re two days away from discovering the details on HTC’s latest flagship, the purported ‘All New HTC One’. The new smartphone is expected to continue the path of innovation set by the original HTC One, which despite being around a year old, has endured as possibly the best Android smartphone released in 2013, in terms of design build-quality and features.
I’ve used the original HTC One extensively and here are some of the features that really stood out for me through months of use.
The Ultrapixel camera was no gimmick but was arguably a huge innovation for mobile cameras. The brightness, detail and sharpness of the photos from this camera are among the best.
The HTC Zoe feature, which strung together video and photos into a mobile music video, was also a lot of fun to use specially for folks who weren’t inclined to create photo and video slideshows on their mobile device.
BoomSound speakers are still considered the loudest, clearest speakers on any mobile device and this looks to continue with upcoming HTC models.
BlinkFeed, which streamed news and messages onto the home screen was a mixed bag. The concept was radical and great for users who were constantly checking their feeds although the limited news sources (and the lack of ability to add new feeds) was frustrating.
More than a single smartphone, the HTC One became a platform that extended directly to the HTC One mini and the HTC One max while influencing other models like the desire series.
That platform is getting an upgrade on Tuesday March 25, when HTC reveals the successor to the HTC One and it will be interesting to find out which features will get revised and what new innovations are in store
