More than search, Google is trying to give users options for exploration and finding relevant information based on location, time and context. As Google says, "the new ‘Explore’ feature helps Canadians uncover their surroundings with the tap of a button, whether they’re searching for a new lunch spot, travelling to a new country or wondering what time their train is scheduled to arrive." This is a convenient way to expand one's horizons beyond pure search. Hit jump for more details.

"App users will be able to use Explore to see different places and activities that adapt to each area and moment throughout their day. Simply tap the new Explore button -- located at the bottom right corner of the map -- to discover nearby hot spots, from a five-minute walk to a 20-minute drive away.

Suggestions in Explore can change based on context, like the time of day and weather. There’s no need to worry about wandering over to a breakfast spot for dinner, or arriving at the park just in time for a thunderstorm! For best results, users should sign into Google Maps with location reporting and history turned on."

Plus, Android device users can tap the My Location button or the blue dot on the map to quickly access more info about their location, such as restaurant reviews and transit schedules, or simply save the place for later. Over time, their location experience will improve as they confirm the places they visit.
