What's coming to Netflix Canada in August

Summer has me in Netflix mode with new releases lately that are more than binge-worthy! Did I mention  I had started watching Stranger Things on the eve of me jetting out to Salem? Creepy. If you haven't started watching now is the time. This paranormal thriller is another Netflix hit! But what else is new? Here are some of the shows & movies that will be released to put on your end of summer watch list...Hit jump to see them all.

CHEF (Available August 1)

Stars Jon Favreau, Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo.

When chef Carl Casper’s plans for opening a restaurant in Los Angeles fail to pan out, he returns home to Miami and debuts a food truck instead.

COCAINE (Available August 1) - Season 1. Three films chronicle the cocaine trade’s sweeping impact on the citizens of Peru, Brazil and Columbia, from poor farmers to powerful drug lords.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA (Available August 1) Seasons 1-3 Stars Nick Wallis. Nick Wallis presents crimes caught on CCTV, cell phones and other devices and reveals how investigators use the recordings to solve tough cases.

CHAIN REACTION (Available August 1) Stars Keanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman, Rachel Weisz. When a team of scientists that discovers a clean, low-cost energy alternative gets sabotaged, a student machinist fights to preserve the discovery.

COURAGE UNDER FIRE (Available August 1) Stars Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, Lou Diamond Phillips. While investigating the death of a chopper pilot, Lt. Col. Serling hears conflicting stories about her service and works to uncover the truth. 

FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS: Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie. (Available August 1) Stars Johnny Depp, Ron Howard, Alfred Molina. Funny or Die presents a satirical rendition of Donald Trump's 1987 best selling business book, The Art of the Deal.

SCREAM - SEASON 2 Netflix Original - new episodes weekly. (Available August 1) Stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Kama. Wi

th the killer revealed at the end of last season, don't be fooled into believing the mystery has been solved or that more blood won't spill at Lakewood High. As the second season opens, the hunt is on for the killer's partner.

 

 

 

 

 

YOUTH (Available August 1) Stars Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz. At a spa in the Alps, two famous friends in their 80s discuss mortality, love and creativity as they close in on the end of their artistic careers. 

 

THE LADY IN THE VAN: (Available August 3) Stars Maggie Smith, Alex Jennings. Jim Broadbent. A man forms an unexpected bond with a transient woman living in her van that's parked in his driveway.

THE CONFIRMATION (Available August 6) Stars Clive Owen, Maria Bello, Patton Oswalt. Eight year old Anthony is somewhat uneasy about spending the weekend with his alcoholic, down-on-his-luck carpenter dad Walt while his mom Bonnie and her new husband Kyle go to a Catholic retreat together. Walt is just as uneasy about spending time with Anthony, especially since their first day together is a series of characteristically unfortunate events.

Michael Moore “invades” Europe to learn about policies implemented there that could solve social problems plaguing the United States.

THE GET DOWN (Available August 12) Stars Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Skylan Brooks 

Told through the lives and music of a ragtag crew of South Bronx teens, The Get Down is a mythic saga of the transformation of 1970s New York City.

 

FEARLESS– Netflix Original (Available August 19) On a journey from brazil to the championships in Las Vegas, a tight-knit group of professional bull riders prove why they’re the best. A new series.


I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD – Netflix Original (Available August 19)

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead takes a compelling look into the life and mind of Steve Aoki, one of dance music’s most hardworking, controversial and captivating characters. Directed by Justin Krook and co-produced by the team behind the critically acclaimed documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead follows Aoki on his journey to play the biggest show of his career at Madison Square Garden, while exploring his complex yet loving relationship with his father, Rocky Aoki, former Olympian and founder of the Benihana restaurant empire.

22 JUMP STREET (Available August 20) Stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Peter Stomare. Bickering partners Schmidt and Jenko are sent undercover once again, this time on a college campus to crack a fraternity’s drug-dealing crime ring.


AMERICAN HUSTLE (Available August 23) Stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper. A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER - Season 2. (Available August 24) Stars Viola Davis, Billy Brown, Alfred Enoch. Brilliant criminal defense attorney and law professor Annalise Keating, plus five of her students, become involved in a twisted murder case.

JEFF FOXWORTHY AND LARRY THE CABLE GUY: WE'VE BEEN THINKING.... Netflix Original (Available August 26) Grammy-nominated comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy bring their distinctive brand of humour to a packed crowd in Minneapolis.


XOXO– Netflix Original (Available August 26) Stars Sarah Hyland, Graham Phillips, Brett DelBuono. Set amidst the biggest EDM festival in America, this film follows six strangers whose lives collide on one frenetic, hopelessly romantic night.

HELLO, I AM DAVID (Available August 30) Stars David Helfgott, gillian Helfgott, Cosima Lange. A journey into the world of the outstanding pianist David Helfgott whose life inspired the Oscar winning film "SHINE"

PANDEMIC (Available August 31) Stars RAchel Nichols, Alfie Allen, Missi Pyle. Pandemic is set in the near future, where a virus of epic proportions has overtaken the planet. There are more infected than uninfected, and humanity is losing its grip on survivial. Its only hope is finding a cure and keeping the infected contained.
