Apple has bought Vrvana for $30 million. The AR development company has likely caught Apple's eye for its work on AR headsets which can help the company in its own efforts to create their AR headset. Apple is famously pushing AR as a future interface and its ARKit framework has fueled various apps used on iPhones and iPads and which will likely translate to a headset provided the right components and input mechanisms are available.

A report from TechCrunch states that  “number” of Vrvana’s employees have reportedly joined Apple’s team in Cupertino. While the startup’s website is still live, it has been silent on social media since August.

Vrvana was a startup that developed the Totem virtual reality headset, which never actually shipped to consumers but had excellent reviews from those who got an early hands-on. Vrvana touts that the headset is an “extended reality” device, which means it takes from both augmented reality and virtual reality technology. Sort of like Mixed Reality whcih Microsoft is touting as their future interface.
