Acer introduces new fitness-centric smartwatch

As part of Acer’s big global press launch in New York City, the Taiwanese company introduced a slew of new products. One of them is a new fitness-centric wearable called the Acer Leap Ware. With looks similar to the old Pebble Time Round, it has a stainless steel round frame surrounding its 1.6-inch Gorilla Glass SR+-protected display. It houses extra sensors with two of them at the side of the watch. These sensors can supposedly monitor more things like stress and exposure to ultraviolet rays—aside from being able to measure things like your heart rate and stamina.

The watch doesn’t run on Android Wear, though. According to CNET, it’s running a “more bare-bones custom software” that is compatible with both iOS and Android. It connects to your device via Acer’s Liquid Life app, which brings smartwatch capabilities like getting call and text notifications. It’ll also show you fitness data it has collected and let you set your fitness goals in the app.

It’s powered by a MediaTek MT2523 processor with MT2511 bio-sensing chip. The Leap Ware also comes with IPX7 water resistance. It comes with either a Navy Blue or Light Brown band but any 20mm watch band will also work with the watch. It is coming to the US in July for US$139.
