We finally get a look at the final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. We also learn that it’s going to be called Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This chapter takes place sometime after The Last Jedi, where Leia Organa’s (the late Carrie Fisher) Resistance movement was forced to go on the run by the First Order. It opens with the idea that “Every generation has a legend.” It sets up Rey (Daisy Ridley) as the one for this generation, it seems.

The film reunites Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, Fisher (footage shot from The Force Awakens) and Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian. And it brings back actors from this generation of Star Wars including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, and Anthony Daniels. We even hear Emperor Palpatine’s iconic cackle in the end as Hamill’s Skywalker narrates the words, “No one’s ever really gone.”

Ian McDiarmid, who played Palpatine in the prequels and original trilogy, showed up at the Star Wars Celebration panel where the first trailer was shown. This J.J. Abrams-directed film will be hitting theatres this December 2019.
