X, the social media platform that Elon Musk bought and renamed from Twitter, will eliminate the option to block other users, except for DMs. Musk, who has wanted to remove the feature for a while, said blocking "makes no sense" and that users should mute instead. The mute option will remain available.

The block feature is a vital safety tool many people use to avoid harassment. Users may face more unwanted and hateful content in their feeds and notifications without this function. CNBC also noted that some users block advertisers and brands they don't like, which could affect X's revenue if many people do that.

Engadget pointed out that rival service Bluesky went down when Musk announced his plans on X, signalling that maybe more users are looking into alternatives because of the drastic changes on former Twitter.
