Apple recently equipped the new MacBook Air and the latest MacBook Pro lineup with the M3 chip, boasting 3nm technology akin to the iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro chip. There are also the M3 Pro and M3 Max variants catering to high-performance needs in the MacBook Pro. However, the whispers of the next generation are already swirling.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman hinted during a Q&A that Apple has begun formal development of an M4-powered MacBook Pro, though details remain scarce. Considering the October 2023 release of the M3 MacBook Pro, a significant wait for the M4 iteration is expected.

While the M3 chip finds its way into the MacBook Air and iMac, the Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro haven't received the M3 treatment yet. Unveiling the first M4-based machine could take Apple at least another year.
