1Password has announced support for passkeys on Android devices running Android 14 and above. Passkeys are a secure and convenient alternative to traditional passwords, and 1Password's implementation offers a key advantage: it works seamlessly across multiple platforms and browsers.

This cross-platform compatibility sets 1Password apart from Google's passkey manager, which is currently limited to Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS. 1Password, on the other hand, offers dedicated apps for various platforms and supports popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Safari.

While 1Password already offered passkey support on Chrome last year, the Android integration allows users to manage passkeys not only for web logins but also for individual Android apps. Additionally, 1Password can potentially convert existing logins to passkeys, but this functionality currently depends on individual app compatibility. While the list of compatible apps is still limited (including names like Amazon, Uber, and WhatsApp), it's expected to grow in the future.
