Apple buys AR startup for $30 Million to bolster its own AR headset

Apple has bought Vrvana for $30 million. The AR development company has likely caught Apple's eye for its work on AR headsets which can help the company in its own efforts to create their AR headset. Apple is famously pushing AR as a future interface and its ARKit framework has fueled various apps used on iPhones and iPads and which will likely translate to a headset provided the right components and input mechanisms are available.

The Apple Beat: Does Dr. Dre's party video confirm that Apple is buying Beats?


Let Me Ride: Has Dr. Dre become the richest name in Hip-Hop because of an acquisition of Beats by Apple?

The past 24-hours have been all about the rumor that Apple is buying Beats for a whopping US $3.2 billion. Speculation has gone through the roof and reactions to the supposed deal range from incredulity to sheer confusion. A video posted early this morning by Tyrese Gibson showing Dr. Dre, the man behind Beats, partying it up and announcing, "the first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherf_____g West Coast!"

So unless Dre's won some otherworldly lottery, this exuberant display seems to lend credence to the rumour that Beats has indeed been acquired by someone for billions. A $3.2 billion acquisition by Apple would be the largest in the company's history, the largest by far. Some are saying there's no way Apple would pay so much for a company that makes headphones and who isn't really into technology.

TELUS to buy Mobilicity for $380 million, adds 250,000 susbcribers

Looks like the inevitable has happened. Mobilicity is being bought by TELUS for $380 million and as a result 250,000 existing Mobilicity subscribers will be absorbed into TELUS which already owns Koodo, a budget brand that competes with Mobilicity.

"A concern for our customers and employees led us to approach TELUS, which has a reputation for a strong customer focus, as evidenced by their industry leading client loyalty," said Stewart Lyons, Mobilicity President. "I am confident TELUS will look after our employees and our customers, mitigating any disruption to their service, while offering the best outcome for all stakeholders." Seagate acquires LaCie

Seagate Technology plc. and LaCie S.A.  announced the completion of the purchase by Seagate of all of the shares of Philippe Spruch and his affiliate, representing 64.5% of the outstanding shares of LaCie for a provisional price of €4.05 per share. The price payable to Philippe Spruch and his affiliate may be increased by 3%, to €4.17 per share, in the event that within six months following today's date, Seagate holds at least 95% of the share capital and voting rights of LaCie.
