Snapdrop is a simpler AirDrop replacement

If Apple’s AirDrop feature has ever acted out on you, Snapdrop is just the tool you need. This website will make it easier for your to transfer files to and from your iOS device to your OS X computer. All you need to do is open Snapdrop’s webpage on both devices while you’re on the same network. After that you can just transfer files between the two with just a few clicks or taps. Just make sure the webpage is open on both devices, they don’t even have to be using the same browser.

Keep privacy by changing AirDrop settings

Here’s a quick tip for you: set your AirDrop’s settings to “Contacts Only” to avoid having anyone near you send you files that might be offensive or otherwise. The Verge writer Josh Lowensohn demonstrated how easily you can send files through AirDrop. He sent AirDrop photos of sloths wearing spacesuits to commuters on a train in San Francisco. Of course, curiosity got to them and the file was downloaded by some. While his trick was harmless, imagine what others can do with this feature. So, it’s best you turn AirDrop’s setting off or to “Contacts Only.” You can do so by heading to the control center and clicking on the AirDrop icon.
