Google to reportedly release Android 4.4.3 to Nexus devices on May 23

While the rumour mill is abuzz with news that the Nexus line is on its way out, the current line of Nexus devices are tipped to be getting the new Android 4.4.3 update next week. Cult of Android reports the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 will be getting the update on May 23, Friday. It will include a number of bug fixes and help refine the platform further. It isn’t confirmed if all four Nexus devices will be getting the software update on the same day or when the Google Play Edition devices will be getting the update. It is still a rumour at the moment. We will most likely here more about the update and other Android news at the upcoming Google I/O conference.

Android KitKat build causing NFC issues on Nexus devices

Nexus users seem to be running into trouble with some builds of KitKat operating system. Updating to the new OS causes Near Field Communication or NFC to shut down on their devices once you update to KitKat. It affects Nexus 10 tablets, 2012 and 2013 versions of Nexus 7, Nexus 5, and Nexus 4. The bugs are present in the builds Android 4.4 (KRT16S), Android 4.4.1 (KOT49E), and Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H). Google is working on a fix for this bug and will most likely be remedied by the next firmware release.

The temporary remedy for the issue is to activate airplane mode on the device. It will let NFC work at lease once before the crash loop starts.

Possible Nexus 5 device leaked in Android KitKat promo video?

Google blindsided everyone with the sudden name change of its next mobile operating system. But they seem to have accidentally shown an unknown Nexus phone in the promotional video for Android 4.4 or Android KitKat. You can see it around the 38-second mark. The black Nexus device features a new matte black finish and a horizontal Nexus logo and there is an LG logo on it as well. LG has already been rumored to be manufacturing the Nexus 5 after the Nexus 4’s successful run.

On a slightly different note, KitKat has gotten in on the promotion with their own wacky promo video for the new OS.
