For anyone looking for an ideal mini slate under 8-inches, the iPad mini 3 as well as the iPad mini 2 (still on sale along with the original iPad mini) are excellent choices. 

It’s hard to believe that the iPad mini is already on its third iteration. Seems like almost yesterday when the world was clamouring for a smaller, more compact iPad and the mini as well as the mini with Retina Display really opened up the market for smaller iPads. Here's the lowdown on the latest mini slate from Apple.

Has Apple solved the SIM Card conundrum?

One of the announcements that sort of slipped by during this week's Apple iPad Air 2 event was the inclusion of the Apple SIM in the new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 models. Basically a multi-carrier SIM that simplifies the process of choosing a carrier. Because Apple's iPhones and iPads now have the most global LTE bands, they can employ a 'generic' or non-carrier specific SIM Card.

This means when users fire-up their device for the first time, they have the option of choosing a carrier on the fly. Apple SIM allows getting this set up through WiFi and even through exisiting LTE bands (by hopping on just for the purpose of initiating the selection).

Apple's iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 now available for preorder

Apple's spanking new iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3 are now available for pre-order from  Apple's Online Store. While no specific launch dates are mentioned, Apple's shipping times estimate three to four days. The new iPad Air 2 starts at CAD $549.00 while the iPad mini 3 begins at CAD $439.00. Older iPad Air and iPad mini models continue to be sold in various storage sizes as well.

First look at the Apple iPad Air 2

Cupertino- Apple today announced the iPad Air 2 which features a second generation 64-Bit Apple A8X processor as well as an M8 co-processor and improved graphics performance while being 18 per cent thinner than its predecessor. The new iPad Air also brings iOS 8.1 into the mainstream as well as many of the continuity capabilities between iOS and Mac OS X Yosemite devices. Also new is the Touch ID which enables fingerprint ID verification online Apple Pay transactions.
