Reuters: Apple iPad mini coming on October 23rd

After months of rumours and speculation peppered by part leaks, 3D renderings and dummy devices, it looks like Apple is readying to unveil the much awaited iPad mini.  A report from Reuters  states that Apple will release a smaller and less costly iPad mini with a 7.85-inch screen. the device is expected to compete against popular tablets like Amazon's Kindle Fire, RIM's PlayBook and Google's Nexus 7.

Samsung sets up Galaxy Note 10.1-inch release on August 15

Samsung might have found a way to make up for flagging Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales. It is readying the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 on August 15th by inviting some press to "meet the new way."  

The Samsung Galaxy Note was intially criticised as being too large for a smartphone although Samsung touted the stylus (which is limited in use only on certain Samsung apps) as a big feature. Despite this, te device sold 5 million units as of March, proving that there is a place for phablets in the market.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes on sale for $100 off in Canada

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 has gone on sale for $100 off the original price. This means that the base 16GB version of Samsung's slim Honeycomb tablet now costs $399 while the 32GB version costs $499. Both Future Shop and Best Buy are offering the tablets online and in stores. The Galaxy Tab is the latest tablet to go on sale in 2012, Sony's Tablet P as well as BlackBerry's PlayBook have also reduced their prices at the start of the year.

First Look: HTC Flyer 7-inch Android tablet revealed

HTC just revealed its 7-inch Android tablet called the HTC Flyer at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Flyer, which is expected in Q2 2011, runs a HTC-Sense modified version of Android OS 2.4 (Gingerbread) and not the tablet-centric Honeycomb version 3.0.

Decked out in a unibody aluminium enclosure and with a bright 7-inch 1024×600 screen, the Flyer aims to be ultraportable yet powerful with its 1.5GHz single-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The HTC Flyer joins the original Samsung Galaxy Tab and the RIM PlayBook in the 7-inch tablet space.

Samsung ships 2 Million Galaxy Tabs in three months

Samsung just announced that they have sold 2 million of their Galaxy Tab Android tablets in the past three months which is remarkable considering that they are only selling the 3G + Wi-Fi models that need to have a data plan and are sold through mobile carriers. We're hoping that the Galaxy Tab's strong adoption and popularity will guarantee a Honeycomb (Android 3.0) update in the near future. It will also be interesting to see how the Wi-Fi only variant of the Galaxy Tab sells once it is released.
