Testing the Rogers LTE Rocket Hub on a week-long working vacation Montreal with multiple smartphones, tablets and notebooks showed us just how valuable an LTE powered hub can be.
You know how it goes. You book your vacation accommodations making sure that there's WiFi available, it is a critical part of finding a home away from home, specially if you need quick and reliable access to the Internet. I recently spent a week with my family in lovely Montreal and we booked accommodations through Tripadvisor.ca.
We found a nicely outfitted apartment right at Montreal's plateau and one that was advertised as having high speed Internet via WiFi as part of the package.
Once we had unpacked and gotten comfy, we took out our smartphones to check mail, post our latest Instagrams and check the weather. It was then that we realized that the so-called WiFi was extremely sketchy and slow.
The owner of the house was away on vacation so we couldn't ask their assistance. Our other option would have been to use up our smartphone's data plans and tether our notebooks and tablets. Thankfully, I brought along a Rogers LTE Rocket Hub.
The Rocket Hub uses a Rogers LTE SIM Card and acts as a wireless hotspot. The stylish black slab is a simple plug and play affair. Plug it into the mains and wait for it to grab a signal and then enter the password that appears on a sticker below.
The Rocket Hub ($99.99 on selected plans) appears like any WiFi hotspot, it can handle multiple devices and that weekend we were four persons with a total of 12 devices (crazy, right?). We managed to have at least 8 devices connected simultaneously.
Thanks to the Rogers LTE Rocket Hub, we were able to stay connected throughout our stay. The device is unobtrusive, easy to use and reliable. Even with multiple devices connected, i experienced up to 30 Mbps download speeds.
The only issue we experienced was that sometimes, some devices were kicked off the network and unable to join in. The Rocket Hub worked great for the most part and even supported various Facetime calls.
