Sony expands 4K offering: X850A UHD TV and Handycam FDR-AX1

In time for IFA 2013 in Berlin, Sony’s showcasing a slew of new products for fall and the Japanese brand looks like they want to move full steam ahead with 4K technology with the introduction of a new 4K Ultra HD TV and 4K Handycam.

Building on its existing X900A series, Sony introduced the X850A series. It is equipped with four times the resolution of Full HD combined with Sony’s TRILUMINOS Display and magnetic fluid speakers for a completely immersive all-in-one video and audio experience. This is all housed in a slim bezel and comes in 55-inch XBR-55X850A for $4,199 and 65-inch XBR-65X850A for $5,699. Both models will be available this month through Sony Stores and select authorized retailers nationwide.

Aside from watching 4K content, you can create your own with Sony’s first 4K consumer camcorder, the FDR-AX1 4K Handycam. It records 4K and HD movies in XAVC S format, which allows for longer recording times and lets you store two hours worth of 4K video and three hours worth of Full HD recording (1920 x 1080 60p) on a 64GB XQD memory card. The FDR-AX1 makes use of Sony’s G Lens to assure you pristine imagery when you create your videos. Three ND filters as well as paint functions (white balance, gamma, detail, skin detail, and matrix) are also available to give you more creative control. The FDR-AX1 retails for $4,499.99 and will be available in late October. Sony’s throwing in the VEGAS PRO 12 EDIT software and a 32GB XQD memory card as a free offer.
