Instagram's recent push towards short-form videos with Reels seems to be inspiring a response from its competitor. Code discovered within the latest TikTok update suggests the upcoming launch of a dedicated photo-sharing app called TikTok Photos.
This information comes from a teardown of the latest TikTok app (version 33.8.4) by TheSpAndroid. The code reveals references like "Open TikTok Photos," hinting at a separate app. Additionally, strings like "Share this post to TikTok Photos" and "Reach other like-minded people who enjoy photo posts" solidify the app's focus.
While creating slideshow-style videos with multiple photos is already possible on TikTok, TikTok Photos appears to target a more dedicated photo-sharing experience. Interestingly, the code suggests the ability to sync existing photo posts from the main TikTok app, likely with an optional toggle for user control.
A leaked icon mirroring the original TikTok app's colour scheme further strengthens the possibility of a new app. While no official announcement exists, the evidence points towards an imminent launch of TikTok Photos. This new app will presumably be available on both Android and iOS devices.
