Foldables have traditionally been premium devices, but Samsung is shaking things up with rumours of a budget-friendly Galaxy Z Fold 6 variant launching later this year.

According to a Korean report, Samsung is targeting a shockingly low price of around US$800 (around CA$1,084) for this model. That's a significant drop from the current Fold's CA$2,399 price tag and even undercuts the Galaxy Z Flip series' CA$1,299 cost.

So, what sacrifices will be made to achieve this price point? The report suggests the cheaper Fold6 will miss out on S Pen support and may have a lower-quality display, smaller battery, and a different processor compared to a potential "Ultra" version.

The camera is an interesting point. While still described as "flagship-level," it might be similar to the existing Fold5's triple-camera system, with a rumour hinting at a possible downgrade to a dual-camera setup.

The biggest cost-saving measure could be the processor. The "Ultra" Fold6 is expected to pack the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, but the cheaper version might utilize a more affordable Samsung Exynos chip or a lower-tier Qualcomm offering.

With the announcement expected in July, we'll surely learn more about the pricing and compromises of Samsung's upcoming foldable lineup.
