Just in time for Halloween, Threads is bringing the aptly named Ghost Posts. These posts live for only 24 hours on your timeline and will be automatically archived afterward. It is social media's latest attempt at ephemeral content. Acting similar to Instagram Stories (or Snapchat, if we want to go further back), but this time, it's for your written thoughts.
To write a Ghost Post, head to the "What's new?" text box at the top of the page and tap on the smiley face inside a dotted-line chat bubble to the right. Write your post as you normally would. When published, the post will appear in the feed in a chat bubble surrounded by dotted lines and appear in a Ghost Posts subsection on your profile.
These posts also hide your metrics and replies to the public. All they would see are smiley faces next to the metrics, which show that at least one person has interacted with it. Only you can see who has interacted with or replied to your post. All replies will show up in your messaging inbox.
After 24 hours, your Ghost Posts will appear in the Archive section of the app, which you can access by tapping the two-line button in the top-right corner of your profile page. While normal archived posts can be brought back, Ghost posts will stay archived. According to Lifehacker, they are also unshareable on the fediverse.
