If you're picking up the new Nintendo Switch 2 when it comes out, one of the important things you need to do—or resist doing—is remove the applied film protector on the gaming console. Out of the box, the Switch 2 has a film layer on top of the display built to "prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage." This is in reference to a line in the Switch 2's European safety manual spotted by NintendoSoup.
The Switch OLED came with a similar anti-scattering layer and the same warning, which aims to minimize the spread of glass splinters if the screen cracks. And if you've handled a foldable phone, those come with protective anti-scratch films, too.
Other helpful reminders in the safety document include everything from remaining aware of your surroundings; avoiding using the Switch 2 in dusty, humid and smoky environments; charging the batteries at least once every six months; and avoiding placing stickers over the controllers' shoulder buttons to prevent impeding the magnets used to attach them to the console.
