At WWDC 2026, Apple finally unveiled its artificial intelligence-powered implementation of Siri, the aptly named Siri AI. Built on top of Google Gemini models, Siri AI also gets a dedicated app in iOS 27, where you can start conversations with the AI assistant.

Siri AI is intended to work across Apple devices and promises you similar functionality to what you get with Gemini. It can look up directions, answer questions about what's on your screen, find specific photos in your camera roll, summarize documents and create event plans, among others.

Even as some of Siri AI features are designed to use on-device models, Lifehacker noted that there will be usage limits for the tasks that require server-side models. Apple hasn't provided the specifics for the daily usage limits, but the company said iCloud+ subscribers will get "increased access."

While introducing Siri AI, Apple's software head Craig Federighi emphasized Apple's commitment to safety and privacy. “Apple intelligence uses on-device processing, as well as Private Cloud Compute, which ensures your data is not stored or accessible to Apple or anyone else, your data is only used to execute your request, and outside experts can continue to verify this promise at any time,” Federighi said.

Due to regulatory issues, Siri AI is not expected to arrive in the EU on iOS and iPad OS at launch and on any Apple devices in China. Generally, the feature is coming out with iOS 27, when it officially launches later in the year.
