Apple overtakes Alphabet again as world's biggest company

Google's parent company Alphabet didn't last long as the world's biggest company. Apple has managed to take the throne back as the company's shares have risen since Monday. They are now trading up US$0.55 at $96.38, while Alphabet's share have slid down. This puts Apple's market capitalization (or the value of all its shares together) at $534 billion compared to Alphabet's $508 billion.

Richard Windsor, an independent analyst at Radio Free Mobile, told Independent that Apple is at a better position as Google has an increasing dependence on Apple for revenue while Apple is taking steps away from Google. They're developing Apple Maps to combat reliance on Google Maps and have allowed ad-blockers on its browsers to keep Google from making money on ads. If Apple will become successful in "booting" Google out, Google could lose $13 billion in annual revenue as well as a "collapse in its valuation."

Alphabet is now the world’s most valuable company

It’s been six years since Google has managed to surpass Apple as the most valuable company in the world. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is now worth around US$570 billion, compared to Apple’s $538 billion value. Apple has held the top spot since 2013 after overtaking Exxon Mobile. But thanks to strong earnings report, Alphabet takes the top spot. Google has brought in a total of $74.5 billion in revenue and a total income of $23 billion for 2015.

Apple had its biggest quarter this Q1 of 2016 as the company has made $18.48 billion in profit, which is the most a company has made in a single quarter. But that isn’t enough to satisfy its investors apparently as iPhone sales are expected to drop for the first time in the second quarter of the year.

BMW has no plans to sell Alphabet.com domain

While abc.xyz is an innovative domain name for Google’s new parent company, Alphabet, they would’ve probably liked to have had the Alphabet.com domain. It’s too bad that BMW, who currently owns it, has no plans of giving it up. The German carmaker owns a fleet services company with the same name and uses the domain Alphabet.com. A spokesman from the company told The New York Times that Alphabet is a large part of the business so they don’t have plans on selling it. They are looking into whether Google’s Alphabet has infringed their trademark. But they have no legal action planned.

Alphabet though won’t be introducing products under the company’s name so it probably won’t be as big an issue for them to use that domain name.

Google is now under Alphabet. Wait, what?!

Google or should we now say, Alphabet, dropped a bomb on us by announcing that the search giant is now under a parent company called Alphabet. The parent company will have Google co-founder Larry Page as its CEO and Sergey Brin as its president. Alphabet, which has its own site already, will be consisting of a number of companies with Google being the largest. It’ll replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all the shares of Google will automatically convert to the number of shares of Alphabet. And Google as the company will now have Sundar Pichai as its CEO.
