YouTube on mobile to integrate with Android 10's dark theme soon

YouTube already has a dark mode that you can toggle within the mobile app. But soon it'll integrate with the system-wide dark theme Android 10 is offering. Some users see the change in their devices already, but it hasn't come to all users yet. YouTube is rolling it out the update on the server-side, so you can't force the update with an APK.

The change renames the "Dark theme" option in the settings to "Appearances." Within that option, you now get to choose "Use device theme," "Light theme," and "Dark theme." If you opt for the device theme option, YouTube's look will match what system-wide option you've set for your device.

Google Play Store might get dark mode treatment soon

Photo: XDA Developers

Google has been aiming for a system-wide dark mode for Android 10, with its first-party apps getting the option. A couple of apps seem to be particularly time-consuming to adapt to dark mode: Gmail and Google Play Store. We've seen this feature show up on Gmail recently. And now it looks like Google Play Store has followed suit, with some Google Pixel smartphones getting dark mode. But this seems to be limited to Android 10 for now, so if you're using a device running on Android Pie or older, this might not make its way to you yet.

Android 10 is tipped to land on Pixels on September 3rd

It looks like the final version of Android is coming real soon—tomorrow, to be exact. Canadian carriers Rogers and Telus leaked on their support forums information that the Pixel phones will be getting the latest version of Android on September 3rd. Both have since taken out this info, but the release of Android 10 is imminent. The final beta for Android 10 was released a month ago. Google said at that time that the public rollout was "just a few weeks away." Plus, Google's Pixel phones usually get first dibs on the latest version of Android. This newest version of Android might be hitting more smartphones in a timely fashion as over two dozen phone manufacturers were rolling out beta versions of the operating system.
