Netflix to produce all future original programs in 4k, partners with Sony and Samsung

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings took to the stage of Sony’s press conference at CES to announce that they have partnered with Sony to push 4k content and 4k televisions of the tech company. Hastings said the streaming service aims to make 4k a viable option for streaming with Netflix’s Ultra HD offering capable of working under 15 Mbps bitrate.

Netflix will also be joining Amazon to partner with Samsung to deliver 4k streaming content to Samsung UHD TVs.

Netflix updates Android app to add individual profiles

Netflix finally updates its Android app to support individual streaming profiles under a single account. This lets you filter out suggestions and queues from other users of your device. The app also improved its search capabilities.

Netflix redesigns interface

While Netflix recently announced a deal with Disney to distribute new Marvel shows, Netflix has now updated the look of its service. The user interface now features three big slideshow images, teaser summary as well as a Netflix-chosen personalized detail. The streaming video service also included visual and predictive search in the new update. The redesign, however, will only work for smart TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and game consoles. Mobile Netflix users won’t be able to see the new look.

Netflix to introduce new Marvel shows

While U.S. TV network ABC has Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix is set to have four different 13-episode shows on the streaming site. The new shows will be based on lesser-known heroes: Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones. It will start streaming from 2015 onwards and then will also have a fifth mini-series featuring all the four characters and will be called The Defenders.
