Source: OPPO

OPPO is entering the flip smartphone segment with its newest announcement, the OPPO Find N2 Flip. The company introduced it in its home country, China, but it has plans to introduce this phone internationally.

While it still has that compact form factor of flip devices, OPPO adds a tall 3.62-inch cover screen. It's a 60Hz OLED panel with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. You can take selfies or framing shots, show QR codes, and access settings on the phone from this tiny display.

Huawei signs patent cross-licensing deal with rival OPPO

Huawei may finally have some of its key connectivity features accessible outside of China. The company has signed a cross-licensing agreement with BBK Electronics' OPPO. Huawei can share its connectivity know-how, while OPPO can provide patents regarding audio and video tech. The announcements from both companies don't go into the detail about the deal.

Due to US sanctions, Huawei hasn't been able to fully utilize its key technologies or make money out of them. The deal will at least help them earn additional revenue. OPPO, together with vivo (another BBK Electronics company), has shipped over 51 million units in the last quarter, meaning Huawei can earn handsomely from their agreement. It will be interesting to note if lawmakers will pay attention to this deal, and if that'll affect BBK's business.

Source: Qualcomm and OPPO

When the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile chipset comes out, you can expect a fully optimized hardware-based ray tracing feature, which we'll see on devices like the upcoming OPPO Find X flagship phone. The next Qualcomm chip is expected to offer multiple ray tracing effects, allowing top mobile games to run at a steady 60 frames per second while offering "life-like soft shadows and reflections for the highest gaming visual quality." Its ray tracing render efficiency is increased by a factor of five and with a reduced CPU workload by 90%.

Future OnePlus phone to get 150W fast-charging

Source: OPPO

Innovations in the fast-charging space have continuously been pushed by Chinese brands. OPPO used Mobile World Congress to talk about its new 150W SuperVOOC fast-charging standard, which it claims can charge a 4,500mAh battery from 1 percent to 50 percent in five minutes, then to 100 percent in just 15. It plans to bring the technology first to its OnePlus sub-brand in the second quarter.

OnePlus, we've heard, has plans to launch the OnePlus 10 Pro in more markets later this year. But that won't be the device to feature this technology. OPPO introduced 125W SuperVOOC fast-charging in 2020, but that wasn't launched in any of the company's products.
