Microsoft 3.0: Pushing productivity across platforms and devices

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's e-mail to employees last week served as the company's manifesto for a new era. Titled 'Bold Ambition & Our Core', the lengthy document sets the foundation for a new Microsoft, one that's moving away from Steve Ballmer's 'Devices and Services,' focused company to a more universal 'mobile-first and cloud-first,' company that embraces the opportunity to be the lead productivity and platform company.

The head of Windows Phone at Microsoft said in a recent “Ask me Anything” on Reddit that their team is hoping to release their file manager by the end of the month. Belfiore even showed screenshots to authenticate this feature. There are third-party file managers out there but it is always better to work with an official one baked into the system already.

Microsoft works out kinks with Windows Phone's music app

Microsoft just released an update for its music app to address issues that cropped up on the Windows Phone 8.1 preview, such as no Cortana support and buggy interface. Now, the app lets you use voice command to search for playlists you want to list to, pause and play music, etc. Interface transitions look like they are smoother, too. And it woould seem the unexpected black screen issues are gone as well.
