Sony’s new beta firmware update adds Dolby Atmos support to the PS5

Sony has announced a new beta firmware update for the PlayStation 5 console, and one of the new features is Dolby Atmos support. The PS5 can now deliver audio in Dolby Atmos format to compatible devices. Previously, this feature was limited to Blu-ray playback and only through bitstream output. The new beta enables software encoding of Atmos audio for games, too.

Google rumoured to introduce generative AI features to Assistant

Google is reportedly working on a new version of Assistant that will use generative AI to enhance its features. The company has told its staff in an email, obtained by Axios, that it is already experimenting with a “supercharged” Assistant powered by the latest large language models (LLM), similar to the ones behind ChatGPT and Google’s own Bard chatbot. The email says, "A portion of the team has already started working on this, starting with mobile."

Nintendo’s next-gen console: What we know so far

A new leak claims that Nintendo is working on its "next-gen" console, which will be another hybrid device like the Switch. However, it will have an LED screen instead of an OLED one to cut down on production costs. The leak also suggests that the console will launch in the second half of 2024, with developers already having access to devkits.

This launch window matches a previous rumour and Nintendo's own statements. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors they should not expect new hardware until after the fiscal year 2023, which ends on March 31, 2024. This also aligns with the typical console generation cycle, as the Switch celebrated its sixth anniversary in March.
