WhatsApp to include voice capability

Facebook’s recent acquisition, WhatsApp Inc., plans to include voice functionality into the application in the second quarter of 2014. WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum said at Mobile World Congress the feature will be available first on Android and iOS devices and then Windows and BlackBerry.

“We want to make sure people always have the ability to stay in touch and call their friends, families and loved ones and do it easily and affordably,” Koum said.

Sony debuts 10.1-inch Xperia Z2 tablet

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet doesn’t want to be left behind the powerful Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone that debuted at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This new 10.1-inch tablet features a 1920x1200 resolution display, 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage. It also comes with an 8.1-megapixel rear camera, digital noise cancellation, 6.4mm thin body, and waterproof and dust resistant at IPX5/IPX8. The tablet will be launched around the world this March.

Lenovo debuts three mid-range Android smartphones at MWC

Lenovo S660

Lenovo brought three mid-range devices at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona—the S660, S850, and S860. The phones all come with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, dual-SIM capability, and 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. The devices should be out on the market by June but whether they will be available in the region is yet to be seen.

Samsung unpacks Galaxy S5, new Gear 2 and Fit wearables at MWC

Samsung continued its tradition of theatrical unveilings by kicking things off with 10 minute orchestra performance leading to the launch of their new Galaxy5 flagship.

The new smartphone has a large 5.1" AMOLED screen, features a new 16 megapixel camera with fast auto-focus, a fingerprint scanner on the display and is water resistant. It is expected to launch by April 11 in 150 countries. Samsung also unveiled the second generation of their smartwatch, the Gear 2 and Gear neo which offer three times the battery life of the original and can act as standalone music players. Along with the Gears, a new Fit device designed for health tracking was launched as well.
