Box for Android update improves photo preview capabilities, introduces alpha testing program

Box has unveiled a new update for its Android app to make it easier for you to browser through your files and to give you access to new features before they are officially rolled out. The new preview feature for images makes sure you only view low-resolution quality images when you’re scrolling and get to see the high-resolution versions when you are looking directly at the photos. The company took out what they consider unnecessary icons on the app to streamline use.

Box also introduced an alpha program for users wanting to test out early features. For those interested, you will be prompted by the app and will be required to join a Google Group to access the special version of Box with the new features.

Facebook introduces “Donate” button for non-profits

Facebook has partnered with 19 non-profit organizations in America to launch a “Donate” button. It will help make it easier for you to support organizations like Donors Choose, UNICEF, World Wildlife Fund, and Red Cross. A pop-up window will show up if you decide to donate and you can either enter payment details or use what you already have stored on Facebook.

One potential side effect of this new feature is it can boost Facebook’s business as well since you will be entering billing information on the site. It will bolster the sites ecommerce initiative, Autofill With Facebook, which allows third-party mobile apps to pull billing and shipping information from Facebook without typing too much. And it would help boost advertising programs as well.
