Ubisoft Montreal to take lead of the 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake'

Source: Ubisoft

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was expected to launch this year, but its development process has been quite bumpy. Ubisoft's latest solution to address the problem is to put its Montreal studio in charge of the project. Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai studios have been working on the game.

Ubisoft Montreal is considered "the very birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy." Now, the dev team says it will "take them time they need to regroup on the scope of the game" to offer "the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it's ready."A spokesperson from Ubisoft told Engadget that the aimed release for The Sands of Time Remake is the 2023 fiscal year, so you shouldn't expect it to come out before April next year.

YouTube to retire Go app in August

YouTube is retiring its lightweight alternative to the main app. According to the YouTube Team, it's retiring YouTube Go because it's become unnecessary. The app was first launched in 2016 to help make the app accessible to users where connectivity is spotty, mobile data prices are high, and low-end phones couldn't handle the main app.

YouTube has upgraded its primary app to allow entry-level devices or those in slow network areas to run more efficiently. Plus, YouTube said it is working on new controls to help lower their mobile data usage if they have limited access to it. The company is now advising Go users to download the main app, especially since this gets them access to features like commenting, posting, and creating content.

Spotify's podcasting tech chief and Anchor co-founder Michael Mignano will leave the company by the end of June. Spotify confirmed that he submitted his resignation last week, making him the latest high-profile departure from Spotify's podcasting business. He follows after the head of studios and video Courtney Holt and Gimlet Media director Lydia Polgreen left. Holt was the one who cut blockbuster deals with Joe Rogan and the Obamas.

Mignano co-founded Anchor in 2015, which Spotify bought in 2019 for over US$150 million. The streaming service brought in Mignano to head its podcast tech division. As The Verge pointed out, Anchor hasn't produced any big stars. Still, it has become one of the most-used podcast hosting platforms, with one out of four new podcast episodes done through Anchor (according to Livewire Labs).
