Apple reportedly acquires French AI startup Datakalab

Apple reportedly acquired Datakalab, a Paris-based startup specializing in on-device artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision technology. The acquisition, according to French business magazine Challenges, was finalized in December 2023.

Datakalab focused on creating low-power, efficient deep learning algorithms that run directly on devices. This expertise aligns with Apple's rumored plans to introduce advanced AI features in the upcoming iOS 18.
