Lenovo rumoured to be working on another Project Tango device

There’s a report coming from Ubergizmo that claims we haven’t seen the last Project Tango device from Lenovo. This Google Project introduced around two years ago makes use of special sensors embedded into mobile devices to map out 3D spaces for augmented reality purposes. Lenovo first introduced a Project Tango-enabled device called the Phab 2 Pro. And it seems that isn’t the last we’ve seen from Lenovo. According to Jeff Merideth, general manager of Android and Chrome at Lenovo, the company plans to launch new Project Tango devices next year. That would put Lenovo ahead of other manufacturers, since this will already be a second-generation device and other makers have yet to introduce their first version.

At the moment, there are only a few dozen apps available that take advantage of the depth-sensing capabilities of Project Tango. But perhaps with more devices coming out, we hope to see more apps.

Lenovo plans to release Chrome OS version of Yoga Book

Lenovo sees more potential to its sleek and unique 2-in-1 Yoga Book. The tech company plans to release a Chrome OS version to the line, joining the Android and Windows versions of the device. What makes this hybrid device unique is that it ditches a traditional keyboard and goes with a touch surface on one side that can be used both for typing and writing or scribbling on. The Chrome OS version will support the Real Pen stylus that allows you to write on the pressure-sensitive keyboard surface.

According to Lenovo Vice President Jeff Meredith, there have been “a lot of interest” in a Chrome OS version for this device. And that it could even serve as a great option for schools for its unique offering. There is no official release date yet for this new version but Meredith says Lenovo plans to “maintain the three distinctive products throughout this year at least.”

‘Mr. Robot’ creator said to be adapting 1927 film ‘Metropolis’ into a miniseries

Mr. Robot’s creator Sam Esmail is said to be bringing science-fiction masterpiece Metropolis into the modern age. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is currently in the early stages of development and it hasn’t been stated what role Esmail will play in the final product. It’s expected to hit TV screens two or three years from now, which should give Esmail more time to finish four- to five-season roadmap for Mr. Robot. Metropolis is expected to have a budget as large as US$10 million per episode with Universal Cable Productions funding the project. The plot is said to be similar to the original script.

Metropolis has been considered a groundbreaking film back then, where German filmmaker Fritz Lang set to tell a story about two lovers living in a highly hierarchal society. The super-rich prey on the poor to power a futuristic city in the year 2026. This silent film is considered one of the first feature-length sci-fi movies and cost over five million German Reichsmarks to make (which is around US$24 million by today’s standards). While the expensive film bombed in the cinema, it’s still considered a pioneer in its genre.
