Review: Game of Thrones Season Six Blu-Ray

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The phenomenon that is HBO's Game of Thrones cannot be underestimated. The popularity of the made for cable adaptation of George R. R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series of novels has, in a way, transcended what the author imagined for his epic sword and sorcery tale of the quest for the Iron Throne. Season six of GOT, now on Blu-Ray, doesn't just bring back all the epic moments of the previous and penultimate season, it does so with a ton of extras as well as a master class dissection of one the most intense battle scenes filmed, the Battle of the Bastards.

Google adds user’s TV and movie ratings to Search

If you use Google Search on a desktop browser and you input a particular movie or TV show, Google seems to have integrated users’s ratings into the mix. It’s not showing up for us yet but as Android Police reports it seems to be showing up for some users on the web browser version (it doesn’t seem to be up on mobile either at the moment). Now, there’s thumbs up and thumbs down icon (which can reflect your own verdict) that shows up before the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings. You can also see a cumulative rating from Google users about the particular show or movie. We’re kind of hoping Google incentivizes users to “like” or “dislike” movies and TV shows so the system can suggest things you might want to watch.

There’s a glossy black version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Samsung has not been shy about following in the footsteps of Apple (the copying itself is something quite common in the industry itself). This time, the 128GB version of its Galaxy S7 edge flagship gets its own special glossy black version that will be available in “select markets” starting December 9. Samsung hasn’t said yet which markets and how much it will be going for but this “Black Pearl” variant won’t be coming to the Galaxy S7.

Adding this option, the S7 edge is now available in Blue Coral, Pink Gold, White Pearl, Black Onyx, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium. Not all colors are available in all markets, though.

Microsoft officially brings desktop apps to Windows 10 phones

It’s been a long time coming but it looks like it’s finally the start of having a truly unified Windows platform. Microsoft just announced at its WinHEC event in Shenzen that desktop apps are coming to ARM processors—and that means almost all kinds of mobile devices—through its partnership with Qualcomm. These apps aren’t just the touch-friendly Windows Universal Apps. These are the full-fledged versions, meaning you can get access to Office and even Photoshop CC on a Windows phone—and developers don’t even have to do anything.

Microsoft and Qualcomm will be using an emulation process for this but a video shared by The Next Web shows how the system is able to run smoothly on an almost year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. We don’t expect Microsoft to drop its Universal Windows Platform, especially since these versions are more power efficient, touch-friendly, and scalable than the x86 software. But it will entice people to use Windows 10 phones more and in turn that just might bring more options into the market.
