Apple 15" MacBook Air, Apple Silicon Mac Pro reportedly in the works

Aside from the iMac, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports in his weekly newsletter that Apple is getting ready to release the long-rumoured 15-inch version of the MacBook Air. The company is also supposedly working on a refresh for the 13-inch variant as well as the first Apple Silicon-powered Mac Pro. He expects these Macs to arrive sometime between late spring and sometime in summer. But it isn't clear if these new MacBook Airs will ship with an M3 processor. But he speculates "at least" the 13-inch model could feature the new chip given there's an M2 version of it already.

Microsoft experiments with a redesigned Windows 11 audio mixer

Image: Microsoft

Windows is known for making multiple audio device management a bit of a chore. But it looks like the company is working to make this experience more manageable. The latest Windows 11 Insider Preview includes a redesigned Quick Settings volume mixer. This new interface allows you to switch between audio devices, enable spatial sound, and even adjust volume output on a per-app basis, which wasn't possible with the existing design.

Windows 11 is also getting a dedicated shortcut for easier access to this feature. You can press Windows, Ctrl, and V keys on the keyboard simultaneously to open it. We don't know yet when Microsoft plans to roll this out to regular users. But we're hoping sooner rather than later.

Apple might release M3-powered iMac in the 2nd half of 2023

Image: Apple

There might be a 24-inch iMac coming as early as the second half of 2023. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the development of two new iMac models is in their "late stage," with the company recently starting its manufacturing tests. Gurman doesn't expect volume production to start at least three months from now, but it will bring a handful of improvements. Most significantly, this will run on Apple's next-generation M3 system-on-a-chip. This new version of Apple's chip is expected to get significant performance and power efficiency gains as it'll supposedly run on TSMC's upcoming 3nm process.

The internals of this new iMac is expected to get redesigned as well. Apple is reportedly planning a "different" manufacturing process for attaching the stand. But you can expect this all-in-one to have a 24-inch display and come in the same cheerful colourway as its 2021 predecessor.
