Firefox OS fires first salvo in Europe with devices from ZTE and Alcatel

Mozilla's Firefox OS on mobile phones is the newest entrant into the iOS and Android dominated mobile market but they're starting their initial salvo in Europe. Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica will release the first Firefox OS devices, the Alcatel One Touch Fire and the ZTE Open. The ZTE Open from Telefonica will cost €69 (inc. VAT), including €30 for prepaid customers and the option of zero interest financing for post pay customers.

Windows 8 hits 100,000 app milestone

After eight months in the market, Microsoft's Windows 8 OS has celebrated 100,000 apps available on the Windows Store. Coming in the Windows 8.1 update (now available for preview) is an enhanced Windows Store, background app updates as well as support for gift cards. Key applications such as Facebook, Foursquare, Yelp and Songza are also making their debut on Windows 8 and Windows RT.
