Sony's PS5 Digital Edition has a smaller, lighter heatsink

Sony recently released a lighter version of its PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (the disc-less model). And YouTube creator Austin Evans showed a teardown of why it was this way. This console has a smaller, potentially lower-cost heatsink that shaves off 0.66lbs off the machine. As Engadget pointed out, that could raise the overall temperature overall. It might not be a problem, except if you upgrade your SSD and add other improvements into its crowded media cabinet.

Other changes made include an easier-to-use stand screw and tweaked connections to the Wi-Fi chip. Sony hasn't explained why it made these changes. But Evans speculates it could be a cost-cutting measure that reflects what Sony has learned since the PS5's debut. In the first-quarter earnings briefing, Sony has told its investors that it'll stop selling the disc-based PS5 at a loss, and this new design can make the Digital Edition profitable much sooner.

Yahoo Mail's iPad app comes to M1-powered Mac

Yahoo has updated its Mail app for the iPhone and iPad to bring it to the M1 Mac. It gets features like Easy Unsubscribe, Quick Reply, and Custom Alerts. Easy Unsubscriber makes it easy to opt-out with a click; Quick Reply offers three short AI-powered suggestions depending on the email received; and Custom Alerts brings you notifications for emails you care about.

This update isn't available on Intel Macs, though, just the M1 machines. And the app is still listed as "Designed for iPad" on the Mac App Store listing.

Belkin launches new MagSafe Car Vent Mount

Belkin has unveiled a new MagSafe-compatible car mount for the iPhone 12. This accessory is more streamlined and compact than its first iteration, and it clips right to your car's air vent. It still has a ball mount the lets you angle it the way you want, including horizontally.

The MagSafe Car Vent Mount comes with a built-in slot to help with cable management. The mount itself won't charge your handset, but you can plug in a Lightning cable to keep your iPhone charged. This Belkin accessory retails for US$39.99 (around CA$50).

Twitter tests ticketed Spaces on iOS

Twitter is experimenting with paid Spaces, which is the platform's take on Clubhouse. The company will let some iOS users sell Twitter Spaces tickets ranging from US$1 to $999. Twitter will be taking a 3% cut of sales and will increase commission based on total earnings. If the host earns over $50,000 using Twitter's monetization features, like Super Follows, the company will charge a 20% fee. As Gizmodo  pointed out, Apple will also get a 30% cut for in-app purchases since the feature is tested with select iOS users.

The company sees this feature as a means for hosts to hold workshops, meet-and-greets, and more. Now, the question is whether people will want to pay for Twitter Spaces is another question.
