BC Cancer partners with Microsoft to answer cancer’s most complex questions and bring hope to patients

Microsoft Canada and BC Cancer have established a game-changing partnership that is answering cancer’s most complex questions at a rate never thought possible. Fuelled by advances in molecular biology, genomics and computer science, BC Cancer researchers are applying a radically investigative approach known as single cell genomics to analyze the millions of individual cells that make up cancer, made possible by cloud computing.

Together, BC Cancer’s single cell genomics expertise and Microsoft’s innovative computing resources will accelerate the pace of research to understand cancer at a granular level, and bring hope to British Columbians facing cancer.

Elizabeth Olsen shares insights on how Marvel keeps its secrets

At a recent panel during ACE Comic Con, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff or Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared some behind the scenes info on Avengers: Infinity War and we got some insight on how MCU is able to keep its secrets, well, secret. One thing is they do shoots and reshoots at the same time. Olsen said “We kind of edit as we go. If they know that we have to reshoot something that was like two weeks ago. They are so on top of it. We were doing reshoots and shooting at the same time. We’d have these like splinter sets that they would build instead of building the whole location.” By doing these at almost the same time, it reduces the speculation about what exactly is happening during filming.

Another way the Russo Brothers were able to keep that big finale a secret was by only letting the actors know what was happening on the day of filming. Olsen said, “I found out from the Russos exactly what was going to happen, and it wasn’t until we shot it on that day we learned what the ending was. They took us into a van—all of us—we were in a van with air conditioning because it was very hot, and they told us how the movie was going to end, and no one knew. And they were like ‘Now we’re shooting it, Go!’ and we were like ‘How are we supposed to interpret that?’”

Facebook tests out new feature to track the time you spend on the social network

Tech companies are acknowledging our need to have better control over our digital health. The latest one to join this initiative is Facebook. The company is testing out a new feature that can show you how much time you spend on the platform. The “Your Time on Facebook” feature shows you the time you’ve spent on the social network over the past seven days as well as the average for the total week. You can set a time limit on how long you’re in the application and it’ll notify you when you’ve hit your limit. Facebook hasn’t given a specific timetable when this will roll out to more users but the company has told TechCrunch that they are “working on new ways to help make sure people’s times on Facebook is time well spent.”

Rogers scheduled to rollout Android Oreo for BlackBerry KEYone owners starting June 28th

If we’re to rely on the latest operating system schedule posted on Rogers’s forums, we’re just days away from the carrier rolling out Android Oreo 8.0 to the BlackBerry KEYone. The carrier expects the OS to start rolling out on June 28^th. One other detail highlighted with the update is Wi-Fi calling, which we presume will be available for the device as well. With the last update Rogers rolled out was considered “Oreo prep,” it’s safe to assume that the carrier might stick to this timeline and KEYone owners are closer to getting the OS upgrade.
