First Look at Lenovo's Vibe X 5-inch smartphone from CES 2014

Lenovo has a long tradition of showing off handsets at CES even if these are to be sold in limited markets like China or Asia Pacific. This year they proudly showcased the Vibe X which is very much a flagship-level device with a quad core 1.5GHz processor running Android 4.2,  a 5” 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution display (with 440 ppi pixel density) and as Lenovo puts it, "At just 6.9 mm in profile, it slips easily into your pocket or bag, and at only 121 g it will never weigh you down." Will we see this smartphone launched in Canada? Only time will tell, but it is certain to earn Lenovo some recognition wherever it is made available.

Samsung files for patent to allow mobile devices to track head movements

Credit: European Patent Office

As the rumours of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 continue to surface, CNet reports that Samsung has a new European patent application that specifies a method to control smartphones with the front-facing camera registering head movements. There have been no confirmation when the technology will even be put to use but speculation suggests this new tech might make its debut on an upcoming device from the Korean IT giant.

The application indicates the technology is meant for times when users can’t touch the phone or are wearing gloves that make it hard for the touch-screen to recognize. Operating the phone at those moments can then be done through eye movement, nodding, or even pronounced eyebrow raising.
