Nokia Lumia 820 takes to the skies with Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines aims to create a more streamlined method for on-board payments and passenger interaction by providing over 19,000 flight attendants with Nokia Lumia 820 devices. The Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone comes with an Avanade point of sale (POS) system that runs on the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail mobile point-of-sale platform and AT&T’s 4G LTE network. It allows flight attendants to handle almost real-time credit card processing for things like on-board purchases as well as seating upgrades. They can even email eReceipts to passengers.

Aside from already offering a Fly Delta app for Nokia Lumia and other Windows Phone devices, Delta wants to develop the service with the ability to read coupons on customer’s smartphones and give the flight attendants essential customer-specific information through their Lumias to help create a more personalized service for each passenger.
