Google explains why it opted to use Wi-Fi 5 for the Nest Wifi

The two most notable things about the new Nest Wifi is that it comes with a built-in smart speaker and digital assistant in all its nodes and that it uses Wi-Fi 5 instead of Wi-Fi 6. Google defends this option by saying that there isn't that big of a real-world difference between the two, especially with the majority of consumer devices still stuck on older protocols.

Nest Wifi Product Manager Chris Chan told VentureBeat"You do see a lot of routers with Wi-Fi 6 built in, but it charges quite a bit of a premium in order to get that, and in fact, you need to have Wi-Fi 6-compatible other devices in order for it to be a faster experience." Google isn't the first to go this route with its Wi-Fi router, though. Amazon's new Eero models are also still using Wi-Fi chipsets.

Linux on Samsung DeX won't be usable once Android 10 update arrives

We have bad news for Linux on DeX users. Samsung recently announced that once its Android 10 update rolls out, the company will be shutting down its Linux on DeX beta program. Samsung didn't elaborate on why it's getting rid of the option but has said that the Android 10 beta is already running without the Linux support. This option should work for those Android users who just want a bigger screen to use their apps on. But for those looking to turn the Galaxy phone as a PC replacement using DeX, you might have to wait for that solution to come your way.

Nest Hello Doorbells can soon play seasonal sounds, including a Halloween-themed one

A new update rolling out to the Nest app will let you change Nest Hello Doorbells to something a bit more festive than a bell. Version 5.40.0.2 will have the option that enables you to change the standard doorbell into seasonal sounds, one of which is labelled "Spooky sounds" that comes just in time for Halloween.

The update will also allow any Google Assistant-enabled speaker or display at home to announce that a visitor is at the door by playing the same seasonal sounds. We assume that you should be able to return it to the usual sound at any time you like. We also expect there might be other themes coming just in time for the holidays.
