Google Pixel C might have been cycled out of security updates

With the July security patch already released, one device that was glaringly missing was Google’s last first-party tablet before the Pixel Slate: the Pixel C. This suggests Google might be ending its support for the 2015 tablet. As we know, Google only guarantees updates “at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device.” The tablet was last seen available at Google’s Store in December 2017. So, this seems to line up with Google’s policy. However, the company hasn’t released any official word on whether it has taken the tablet out of the update cycle.

Pixel July update comes with fixes for various problems

The official July OTA update is finally rolling out to Pixel owners, and this time it addresses issues that were addressed in an accidentally dropped July 5 update. That said update made its way to Google Pixel 3a users in June when it was just supposed to be used internally for feedback but got released to the public. Now, the latest update comes just in time and address so bugs that weren’t touched on previously.

This includes a fix for the detection of the “OK Google” hotword and music playing in the background for the Pixel 2 and 3 lines. Another fixes a bootloop issue that’s happening to some Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL units after installing the Android Q beta 4 update. Users had to do a factory reset or put the phone in recovery mode and reboot the device before they were able to escape the bootloop. The update also includes fixes for Japanese language support for emojis on all Pixel handsets. And it also improves the Titan-M security chip on the Pixel 3 and 3a. If you want to check if the update has made its way to your device, head to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update.

Samsung confirms August 7th event for the Galaxy Note 10

Mid-June rumours were going around that Samsung would be holding the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7th. Now, we can confirm that this is true. The Unpacked event will be on August 7th at 4PM ET at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. You can’t really glean too much from the invite except you see the tip and the bottom half of the S Pen on top of a single camera lens. Perhaps the single camera lens confirms rumours that the Note 10 will have a single front-facing camera embedded into the screen, which is similar to the Galaxy S10 released earlier this year. But the difference is this will have the camera dead center instead of off to the right of the display. Other rumours include having two sizes of the Note 10 (a 6.28-inch and a 6.75-inch model) with both getting 5G variants. As for whether we hear more about the yet-to-be-released Galaxy Fold or even the Galaxy Home speaker is something we can’t say for now. We have a little over a month before we find out.
