Burger King has plans to sell the Impossible Whopper nationwide in the US

Looks like the trial run of releasing the plant-based Impossible Whopper was a success. The fast food chain plans to release this burger that uses alternative meat in select cities. And if the reception stays strong, José Cil, CEO of Burger King parent company RBI, said there are plans to expand its launch nationwide within the year. The response seems to show that Americans are open to trying out meat alternatives and it’s drawing customers that usually don’t head to Burger King.

Cil said he’s tried the Impossible Burger several times and couldn’t tell the difference with their usual burgers. With widespread concern over the health and environmental impact of meat, there has been an increase in sales of these fake and plant-based meat alternatives, like this one offered by Impossible Foods. In the past year, the alternative meat market was estimated to be worth US$4.63 billion.

Apple poached Intel’s head for 5G ahead of its truce with Qualcomm

We speculate that a part of why Intel gave up on 5G was because Apple and Qualcomm’s truce. But it seems there might be one more thing to add to that. Weeks before the said settlement, Apple poached Intel’s 5G modem head Umashankar Thyagarajan. His departure wasn’t exactly a secret. But he was, according to the Telegraph, the project engineer for the XMM 8160 chipset, which was at the heart of Intel’s 5G plans. And he “played a key role” in the creation of the Intel modems in the iPhone XS and XR.

Intel and Apple are not commenting on the report. And it isn’t clear what his role in Apple is, apart from it being described as “Architecture” on his LinkedIn page. But we expect he is working on wireless chipset design for Apple. Apple has in the past said it wanted to make its own cellular chipsets, so we aren’t as surprised about the hire as we should be.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ earns a whopping US$1.2 billion on its opening weekend

With the hype surrounding it and just legions upon legions of fans who support the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it comes as no surprise that Avengers: Endgame has smashed box office records and pulled in US$1.2 billion globally during its opening weekend. This makes Endgame the eighth MCU film to hit the billion-dollar mark. It is the fastest any film has ever earned that much, though. Disney’s franchise films have steadily dominated the box offices when they come out. Last year’s Avengers: Infinity War earned $630 million during its opening weekend and became the fastest movie ever to cross the $1 billion mark.

The Chinese box office helped make the record happen as the opening weekend pulled in $329 million in the country. Infinity War premiered a couple of weeks later. With the film figuring as the culmination of the last 22 MCU films, it seems fitting that it is being received as well as it is. According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, there are at least 20 films coming up that are “completely different from anything that’s come before.”
