Huawei P30 leaks ahead of next week’s event

Huawei’s all set to launch another photo-centric flagship next week (on March 26, to be exact) but it seems someone pulled the trigger early and had the event page up for the new P30 series. Evan Blass spotted the leak, which has since been taken down. As was being rumoured, it features a quad-camera setup with a main 40-megapixel sensor and 10x hybrid zoom (which doubles from the P20 Pro’s 5X zoom). The low-light capability has gotten a boost here, too. There is also a new dual-view video mode, which can show you two of the four cameras at the same time in split-screen. This will let you see both a close-up and wide-angle view. It could make it easier for users to track distant, fast-moving subjects or switch between views easily. It isn’t known if the phone can record this way.

The page also showed the new Huawei Watch GT Active edition, which is being offered for free to P30 Pro buyers in Singapore. It’s going to run on Huawei’s own operating system and is seen as a sportier version of the Huawei Watch GT.

The AirPods 2 are here

After much speculation and rumours, they’re finally here. But perhaps not in the form you expected them to come in. We’ll talk about what they don’t have first. There are no new looks or colour options and the rumoured biometric features aren’t here either. But these do finally get wireless charging in the case—which existing AirPods users can covet at a price. What is also missing is AirPower wireless charging dock. At this point, it looks like we aren’t getting the accessory. So now, AirPods 2 owners will have to get Qi-compatible charging mats to use this feature. The base model starts at $219 for the regular charging case. You have to shell out $50 more for the one with the wireless charging case. And if you own the existing AirPods, you can get the case on its own for a price, which is $99. If you want, you can get laser-etched engraving on your AirPods case for free.

The other new thing coming to the AirPods 2 is its new H1 chip. This promises connection times that are twice as fast than any Apple device you own with 50 percent more talk time or an extra hour than the first-gen AirPods. For music listening, you’re promised the same five hours as before. But a 15-minute recharge promises to give you three hours of listening time and two hours of talk time. The H1 chip also brings always-on voice recognition to the AirPods, meaning you no longer need to tap on the AirPods to activate Siri. Just say, “Hey, Siri” and you’re good to go. Apple didn’t mention any audio boost, though so we can’t speak for audio quality improvements at the moment.

There are fake footage in the ‘Avengers: Endgame’

If you’ve been losing your mind trying to decipher the Avengers: Endgame trailer, we’re going to have to tell you to stop obsessing. One of the film’s directors Joe Russo admitted that there are fake scenes in the trailer to throw off fans from the movie’s true plot. The Russos want to make sure that they don’t give away the story ahead of Endgame’s premiere. They want fans to be truly surprised when they hit the theater next month. While talking to Empire Magazine, Joe said, “We talked about all scales of marketing. The thing that’s most important to us is that we preserve the surprise of the narrative. When I was a kid and saw The Empire Strikes Back at 11am on the day it opened… it so profoundly moved me because I didn’t know a damn thing about the story I was going to watch. We’re trying to replicate that experience.” And we personally think that’s a good way to enjoy a film, especially one as big as this one.

Microsoft is here to remind you that Windows 7 support is ending soon

Microsoft wanted to remind its users that Windows 7 support will be ending in less than a year. A newly deployed update will let users know that security updates will end after January 14, 2020. There’s even a not-so-subtle reminder that the OS has been around for 10 years and now is the time to consider what’s next. This update should start appearing on those Windows 7 machines starting April 18th. It’ll be hard to miss the alert the first time it appears, but you will get an option to disable future reminders.

According to Engadget, a lot of people will be seeing this notice with Net Applications data suggesting Windows 7 is represented nearly 40.2 percent of desktop usage as of February. But we don’t know if these users will heed the warning. A lot of these are PC users that would struggle with the change, and others are using corporate machines where updating isn’t in their control. But Microsoft is hoping the alert will reach the holdouts. Once official support ends, only those who paid for extended support will get security updates (that is until 2023). Outside of a big issue, like the WannaCry ransomware outbreak, Microsoft won’t release anymore updates.
