CES 2019: Hyundai’s concept car is made for walking

And that’s just what it will do, if Hyundai does make this concept into a reality (at the moment it’s just been done at 1/8^th of its scale), that is. Hyundai’s Elevate concept fits right into our image of living on Mars, a Boston Dynamics-like robot that can drive and walk you with its bendable legs. What a strange concept. But Hyundai’s idea is that it can be used to navigate difficult terrain, which could help everyone out from first responders to the military. Space exploration is something the automaker is also considering. The Hyundai Elvate is called an “Ultimate Mobility Vehicle.” Hyundai plans for it to be electric-powered and modular so vehicle bodies can be swapped depending on user’s requirements. As you see in the video above, it has for “legs” with each of these having a series of joints, allowing the vehicle to mimic both reptilian and mammalian walking gaits. It’s a strange, slightly creepy concept we’re still dying to see actually happen.

CES 2019: Lexar introduces 1TB SD card

SanDisk showed off a 1TB SD prototype a couple of years back, but the company isn’t the first one to bring this storage capacity to the market. American company Lexar is. The company’s Professional 633x line of SDHC and SDXC UHS-I cards now have cards that start from 16GB up to 1TB. The card claims read speeds of up to 95MB/s and write speeds of 70MB/s. These are rated as V30/U3, which guarantees a sustained write performance of 30MB/s. With storage that big, expect to pay a lot for it. The 1TB model goes for US$499.99. It’s possible to get two 512GB cards for less, but the premium price might come from getting this tech breakthrough off the ground.

CES 2019: DJI launches Smart Controller with built-in display for your drone

Don’t want to use your phone and tablet to see what’s happening with your drone? DJI just released a new Smart Controller with an ultra-bright display and all the controls you’ve come expect from a DJI controller. With the 5.5-inch display built into the controller, that’s one less thing to have to setup when you want to fly your drone. At the moment, it’s compatible with the new Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. The Mavic 2 Enterprise series will be supported in future updates.

The Smart Controller comes with an ultra-bright display that has an output of 1000cd/m2, which is twice the brightness of standard smartphones. The display also shows flight video in Full HD resolution, making it easier and clearer to see what you’re shooting. The controller comes pre-loaded with an Android dashboard with support for DJI GO 4 and DJI Pilot applications. The DJI GO 4 app gets SkyTalk feature, which lets the pilot livestream the drone’s camera feed to social media. It promises a battery life of 2.5 hours and can operate in temperatures as cold as -4° Fahrenheit and as hot as 104° Fahrenheit. Charging time is set around two hours as well. It’s going to set you back a pretty penny though. The Smart Controller retails for US$649 and will be available in early 2019. DJI plans to release a bundle with the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom, but we don’t know how much that’ll retail.
