OnePlus to release Thunder Purple variant of the OnePlus 6T

Taking cues from its sister companies in China, OnePlus is releasing an eye-catching variant of its current flagship, the OnePlus 6T. The phone will be available in the US starting November 15, Thursday in a new “Thunder Purple” colour. Its purple to black gradient takes design inspiration from “lightning strikes at dusk.” Aside from the colour change, the phones will feature the same specs as the other 6T variants. It still runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and has a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 6, in-screen fingerprint sensor, dual rear cameras with 16MP 1.22 f/1.7 wide-angle + 20MP 1.0 f/2.0 telephoto, a 16MP front camera with f/.20 aperture, and 3,700mAh battery with fast-charging. The difference is this variant only has 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. It’s still priced at US$579 (around CA$760).

Snapchat loses its head for content

Snapchat’s Vice President of Content Nick Bell is stepping down from his position. Bell posted a memo to his staff confirming his departure. It didn’t say why he was leaving though. Bell, who has been with Snap for the past five years, was in charge of helping the company’s media partners produce original content that appears in the Discover section of the app. And while it isn’t clear how successful this section has been, Bell’s departure suggests it hasn’t been as popular as expected. He will be replaced by Jared Grusd, who was appointed last month as Snapchat’s chief strategy officer.

YouTube launches Oculus Go VR app

Joining the other virtual reality platforms, Oculus Go finally gets its own YouTube app. Similar to what you see on the likes of the PlayStation VR and Google Daydream VR, the app on Oculus Go supports 360-degree videos and standard video in a VR theater. There’s a social aspect to this app, allowing you to watch videos with other headset-wearing friends. Now, whether the app is coming to the upcoming Oculus Quest is something we don’t know at the moment.
