Sony tweets cryptic video teaser for launch at MWC 2018

There’s not much we can take away from Sony’s teaser for its Mobile World Congress launch. But at least we know something is coming, we reported last month that the Xperia XZ Pro might be on its way. Reports have also surfaced online that upcoming phones will feature new looks. But there isn’t any indication of that in the teaser, which just shows a hand and ripples cascading down on it. What we did get is the launch is happening on February 26th in Barcelona. You can check out the tweet below.

Canada's second-hand economy is thriving with over 2.3 billion items changing hands in 2017

Buying and selling items seond hand does a lot of good. It saves money, obviously, but it also extends the life of items and makes them valuable to new users instead of ending up in landfills. Canada's second-hand economy is particularly strong according to Kijiji, with 2.3 billion items changing hands last year.

If you buy and sell second-hand items, you can put almost $2,000 in your pocket over the course of a year (actual total $1,959), according to Kijiji's fourth annual Second-Hand Economy Index. That's more than the average annual pay increase for full-time employees in Canada ($1,729) simply through savings from buying second-hand and money earned from selling unwanted items.

An estimated $28.5 billion worth of second-hand items changed hands in 2017 and more Canadians than ever – 85 per cent of us – are getting in on the action in one form or another. This includes buying or selling, along with swapping, renting or donating second-hand items.

Samsung outs 30TB SSD with twice the speed of its predecessor

Samsung leads once again in the storage market with its newest SSD. Doubling the amount of its last release two years ago, Samsung unveiled the PM1643, which is a 30.72TB drive ready for any enterprise storage needs. These have been created with 521Gb 3D vertical NAND chips, which are half the size of the newest 1Tb ones that were announced late last year. Aside from double the capacity, performance has doubled, too, with sequential read/write speeds at 2,100MB/s and 1,700 MB/s.

Since Samsung is able to mass produce at this size, we can expect this to come in smaller capacities housing half the data of the previous ones (15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB, and 800GB). No word on pricing or availability yet but we’re sure it’s going to cost a pretty penny.

Samsung said to be looking for OLED panel buyers as Apple slashes production of iPhone X

Samsung seems to be dealing with some excess OLED panels as Apple reduces production of the iPhone X. The South Korean tech company ramped up its production of the panels because of the projected demand for Apple’s latest flagship. However, according to a report released by Nikkei Asian Review, “production of the iPhone X, whose sales have been sluggish, is expected to drop by half in the first 3 months of this year from the initial estimate of over 40 million units.” And now Samsung is said to be looking for other buyers but smartphone makers have been shying away from the tech because of its prohibitive price. Instead, they're opting to stick with LCDs at the moment. Also, Samsung is facing some tough competition from Chinese OLED panel makers. They are expanding their production capacity, which means they can pose a threat price-wise to the company.
