Apple iPhone X ad focuses on selfies

The newest Apple commercial for the iPhone X puts the spotlight on you… or at least your selfies. Hoping to make you feel confident about taking those selfies and, more importantly, emphasizing that they’re the “greatest” at taking selfies (of course, that’s debatable), Apple used a Muhammad Ali monologue to set the commercials tone. The ad just shows many different selfies that emphasize the portrait capabilities of the phone.

Amazon Alexa app adds full Alexa voice support on Android

Seems like it should’ve been there from the start but it wasn’t. Thankfully, Amazon finally decided to add Alexa voice support to the app. The Amazon shopping app gave access to Alexa voice commands, but it makes more sense to have that within the Alexa app. When the update rolls out, this should give you access to Alexa skills, help you send messages, control music playback, and the like. Hotword detection should work within the app, meaning you can say Alexa and it would respond. But as an Android Police reader pointed out, hotword support doesn’t seem to work even within the app but there is a big Alexa button in the middle of the app’s navigation bar to start voice commands. Hopefully, Amazon fixes this in the future.

Unnotification on Android means you don’t have to miss a notification you accidentally dismissed

There was a time you probably swiped away a notification on Android that you probably needed. And while Android offers its own notification log for you to recall what you lost, it’s a bit too complicated to access for everyday use. A free third-party app is here to help with your plight. Unnotification will ask you each time you dismiss a notification if you want to undo your action. And if this gets too tedious for you, the app will let you blacklist certain apps, so you won’t be constantly bugged by messages from it. Or you can remove these messages entirely and access the undo button by pulling down the Android Quick Settings menu.

You must know though that the app doesn’t pull the original notification but just a barebones copy of it with the information you dismissed. At least you’ll know what app to go to do what you need to. Unnotification only works with devices running Android 8.0 Oreo or up.

Duncan Jones’ to debut new sci-fi film ‘Mute’ on Netflix on February 23

Netflix/Liberty Films UK/Studio Babelsberg

A project that has been years in the making and is considered a spiritual follow-up to Duncan Jones’ movie Moon is finally seeing the light of day. But it’s not heading to cinemas, instead Mute will be debuting on Netflix on February 23. The sci-fi film takes place in future Berlin where a mute bartender played by Alexander Skarsgard has to put his trust on a pair of American surgeons led by Paul Rudd as he looks for a disappeared woman. The film also stars Justin Theroux.

Jones calls this film is “Don Quixote” as it was supposed to be the first movie he’s made (the first draft was made in 2003) but it got pushed back for different reasons, including the cancers of his dad (David Bowie) and wife, among other things. Netflix basically became the project’s savior. The director sings praises of the streaming service, saying they let creators make things they’re “passionate about” instead of delivering “homogeneous blobs” designed to fit everyone’s tastes.
