Facebook Live to bring chat and joint video streams to users

Facebook is bringing features that used to only be open to public figures to its livestreaming video service. The two new features Facebook Live is testing out with some of its users are the ability to chat privately with a friend during a live video instead of just seeing public comments. But Facebook will allow you to jump to and from the private and public chats while the stream is happening. You can even continue talking after the stream ended via Messenger. Another is being able to have joint live streams with someone. The latter used to only be available to public figures and celebrities but Facebook wants to bring this to all its users. Facebook is testing this out first on mobile in several countries but plans to have a broader rollout of the features “later this summer.”

Google makes sharing stuff with family members an easy thing

From sharing calendars and notes to sending photos and videos easily, Google is introducing a new “family group” feature for its service. There can be up to six members of the family included in a group. One of you will serve as the “manager” or the administrator of the group. This person can do things like change payment methods, allow and disallow certain services for some people, and monitor the activities of those under 13 years old. There are also “parent” accounts on the service but they don’t have all the aforementioned features. But they can do things like approve or deny purchase requests and make other restriction changes. You can only be part of one family group at a time and you can leave or join a group only once every 12 months.

Some of the things you can do within the family group is in YouTube TV, you all get access to your own cloud DVR with unlimited storage. You also will be able to easily share calendars and notes through Google Calendar and Keep. Sending photos and videos are also easier through Google Photos. It must be noted that sharing isn’t automatic on Google Keep and Photos so you need to set those up. Some other things you can check out include Play Family Library, Play Music family plans, Family Link, YouTube TV, and Google Calendar. Family sharing for Calendar, Keep, and Photos are already rolling out here.

‘Top Gun 2’ is finally a go

Maverick is making a comeback and the man himself confirms it. Tom Cruise has announced on Australian morning TV show Sunrise that Top Gun 2 is going to happen and they are “gonna start filming it probably in the next year.” Right now, Cruise is in the middle of filming Mission Impossible: 6 and by the time that wraps up, he should be ready to start filming the sequel that has been 30 years in the making.

Top Gun 2 has been in development for a long time and it gained some traction back in 2012 before director Tony Scott died by suicide the summer of that year. It was later picked back up in 2014 and 2015 after producer Jerry Bruckheimer hired a screenwriter and had David Ellison’s Skydance come in to produce.  Bruckheimer even hinted about the film earlier this year. But it seems the runway is clear and all systems are go now. And yes, we’re pretty stoked.
